![]() ![]() There's also this portion of the front side glass panel that hangs enough to leave a tiny gap to peek through the case(I don't think it can't be seen with this image quality). Some screw holes were not properly cut/polished but they are internal problems no one would see anyways. The Meg x570 Ace is supposed to compliment the case but I'm not sure what it was, maybe my specific build quality but it was difficult to align all the case holes with the motherboard holes. Some of the problems with this case is honestly, the build quality. It undoubtedly synergizes with the Meg Ace due to the motherboard having hardware switches for OC profiles and other useful buttons. ![]() Giving me the convenience of easily opening a case without having to unscrew 2-4 thumbscrews just to change or fix something is a real game changer. Hands down the removable tempered glass panels with easy access door handles is easily my favorite feature of this case. ![]() Switching to an AIO brought it down to 45c! This case is certainly designed with radiators in mind, and while I was using a stock cooler my idle temperatures were hitting 70 degrees Celsius. I couldn't understand how effective the case fans were through those side air filters until I used an AIO. This build made me feel like a man(well I am a man but you know what I mean), with a case designed for a man, with it's obnoxious size and weight, but delicate tempered glass on all sides. What really surprised me was the airflow. This is my first ever Full Tower EATX case and I have to be honest there were some problems with this build but all in all, it ended up looking sweet. Now for the actual review of these parts. I somehow struggled to run this game this smoothly in previous builds at 1080p. Dolphin圆4 Vulkan Backend playing Bloody Roar: Primal Fury 60fps. It is supposed to be 300 avg but something happened when I started using Dragon Center and it gave me too many problems that I had to uninstall it and am stuck with 200 for the moment. Later on I will do some manual OCs but for now this will do. I hear many great things about PBO and never had an X series Ryzen so this will be a great control study. I am someone who much rather prefers to undervolt, save power and have parts last longer without having to sacrifice performance. In this benchmark I will be using PBO with XMP 4400mhz enabled. This is the biggest and most expensive rig I have ever had the opportunity to build, let alone own, so now lets check the performance. There, it was crystal clear the moment a killer began to close in on a survivor, as the heartbeat was felt clearing with the headset. On a different note, Dead by Daylight also worked perfectly with the headset. I spent plenty of time testing Overwatch, Fortnite, and Apex Legends and found the sound to easily be traced to its in-game origin. This is especially true in FPS games where the slightest audio cues can indicate the location of a fight, or in more subtle ways as well. ![]() In today’s competitive esports scene, having clear and accurate sound is an essential component to dominating the competition. ![]() ![]() The more stars pumped into the radar system, the more efficient it is. ![]() Some are temporary whereas others are permanent. Cards can be found in stages and activate effects such as faster firing rate. Later, they can also be used to pay into a radar system which will reveal bonus card locations. Stars are collected from enemies, bosses and crates and feel very satisfying to collect, especially if you invest in a magnet which draws them to you. Upgrades consist of improving health and firepower to installing missiles, magnets, lasers and energy shields. To become stronger you must collect stars to spend at the hangar and install upgrades. Each technician is amusingly named and comes with their own benefits such as finding more stars in crates, slowing down bullets and even having good luck.Īnother reason to replay stages is to become stronger and complete challenges that were too difficult before. ![]() Medals are not just for accessing new stages either they accumulate prestige points which eventually unlock a new pilot for the plane, known as a ‘technician’. Even better, is that if you earn a medal but happen to fail before the stage is complete, you still get to keep it. It’s great not having to wait until the end of the stage to know if you’ve failed and means you can simply try again. Four icons in the top right corner of the screen show the medals you can get and a red cross will appear through the ones you have failed on as you play. Once you’ve completed them you get a new set to earn at a higher difficulty. ![]() Medals are earned by rescuing all humans, destroying enemy forces and not getting hit. The later the stage, the more medals it will require too, meaning you will find yourself playing through stages several times to earn them. You can’t even go onto the next stage until after you have got a certain number of medals. The real challenge comes not by finishing stages but by completing the objectives, which you get awarded medals for. A combo score bar and weapon upgrade bar at the top of the screen lets you keep track of those aspects. Throughout the stages you can collect health shields which restore health, and weapon upgrades which gradually increase rate of fire. Crashing, however, will cause instant failure. It is a good system for when there is too much chaos to notice your health bar. The same goes for your own ship which will also cause the screen to flash red to indicate low health. Best of all, bosses have percentages on their health bars so you know exactly how much health they have left. A boss will be encountered at the end of each stage and they have multiple parts to shoot at. It is extremely satisfying to shoot enemies as they all explode or fall to the ground on fire. There are also humans to hover over and rescue which you can see by their emoticons. It’s by no means easy bullets still come at you from all directions from planes, tanks and turrets, but it is fair. Sky Force Reloaded, on the other hand, gives you more time to maneuver around the projectiles. Usually games from this genre such as Don Don Pachi Resurrection are incredibly fast with a screen full of bullets right from the start. If you want some help a second player can join you who will share the same screen. However, don’t expect to start with a powerful and fast ship like in the tutorial you start off with minimum health and much slower, weaker firepower. After the tutorial ends you can start the main game. If you still want to check out the different items you can collect, there is a help page in the options menu which lists them. Useful player tips are also shown before starting stages. There’s no need to try to remember all the item icons and their uses either because a soft, robotic voice tells you each time you collect something. You can move around the entire screen to shoot enemy planes and doing so feels very fluid and responsive. Sky Force Reloadedwastes no time putting you straight into action as the very first thing you do before the title screen first appears, is play through a short tutorial. There are also nice little details in stages such as tyre tracks on the land below. The 3D graphics are crisp and beautiful and explosion effects really stand out without being overwhelming. It came to mobiles in 2016 and arrived on the Xbox One and PS4 at the end of 2017 now it can be played on the Nintendo Switch in all it’s full screen glory. Sky Force Reloaded is an arcade style, vertical shoot ‘em up that serves as a sequel to Sky Force Anniversary. ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() Many 4K TVs now have high dynamic range (HDR) capability, which means they can display a wider range from black to white, so you can see more details in the very darkest and brightest areas of the picture. Remember, if you’re unhappy with your TV calibration, just hit the reset button to start over. Also turn off any noise-reduction and image-enhancement or “dynamic” modes these tend to reduce image quality. We suggest you turn the sharpness control down to zero, then add sharpness sparingly only if the image looks soft, with poorly defined edges. You can tell if the sharpness control is set too high because the background will start to look grainy, and halos will appear around the edges of objects, making the overall image appear less natural. But the best TVs need little or no added enhancement to display HD images at their highest resolution. Manufacturers often set the sharpness control rather high and turn on noise-reduction and other image-enhancement modes. ![]() Sharpness and more: There are several settings you should probably turn off to get the best possible picture. Adjust the color-level control, which might also be called “saturation,” so that colors look vivid yet realistic and natural-looking, but not so intense that they appear to be glowing.Īll these settings may interact with one another in odd ways, so repeat the process as necessary. Then adjust the tint/hue control so that flesh tones look natural, neither too red nor too greenish-yellow-this setting generally works best when it’s in the middle of the range. We recommend choosing the “warm” or “low” setting, which will prevent the whites from appearing too blue. Start with color temperature, which is sometimes called color tone. Then raise it to get the brightest picture possible without washing out those details.Ĭolor and tint: Once the black-to-white range has been optimized, it’s time to adjust the color settings. Lower the contrast control until you can see all the detail, such as the shadows in the folds of the gown, or the subtle gray shadings in the clouds. (If you have an OLED TV, you’ll be able to get deeper black levels than you can with most LCD sets.)Ĭontrast: Also called white level, contrast affects brightness and how well the TV can display near-white shadow detail.įind an image with lots of white-say, a wedding gown or a sky full of puffy white clouds. Then turn it back down so that the black gets as black as possible without obscuring those details. Turn the brightness/black level control up until you can see the details in the image’s darkest areas. To adjust this, freeze-frame a nighttime scene, such as one from a Batman movie or just about any vampire movie. Ideally, a TV should be able to display deep blacks without losing the near-black detail within the darkest areas. And that’s critical for getting top picture quality. Whether that happens or not, your next steps remain the same.īrightness: This is also called black level-and that’s a better term because it controls how dark the picture’s darkest areas can get, not the overall brightness. ![]() On some sets, if you try to change the TV settings, your picture mode will automatically change to a “custom” or “preference” mode. Once you’ve selected one of the preset picture modes, almost all TVs let you tweak the picture’s appearance further. We’ve found this comes close to our own optimized settings, though we often raise the brightness just a bit, because Filmmaker Mode assumes you’ll be watching in a very dark room. Some TVs, from brands including Hisense, LG, Samsung, and Vizio, have a feature called Filmmaker Mode, which automatically adjusts the TV’s settings to show films as the directors intended when a movie is played. Instead, we’ve found that modes with names such as “cinema,” “movie,” and “expert” generally provide the best results. Also stay away from the “vivid” and “dynamic” modes, which tend to overemphasize contrast and sharpness and lower brightness too much. It could artificially boost brightness, contrast, and colors, and turn on motion smoothing (more on that below). Our advice: Don’t choose “sports” mode for watching sports-or for anything else. All TVs now come with a menu of picture modes with names such as “vivid,” “natural,” “sports,” and “cinema.” When you select one of these modes, the brightness, contrast, and sharpness are automatically adjusted to preset values. ![]() ![]() ![]() It also keeps a copy of each document you send for printing. ![]() Maud’s identity as a nurse, on the other hand, remains authentic no matter how far it is thrust into the periphery whenever Maud’s past as a nurse appears, even in the midst of her deepest delusions, it shatters her constructed identity as a twisted saint and reinstates, if only for a short time, her truer self. Tragically, the more heavily Maud relies on her nebulous faith to protect her, the more distortive and hollow it proves itself to be. The corner in which the roach appears (0:01:55), however, communicates that this coping mechanism will prove claustrophobic: it will entrap Maud, and the longer she spends within this delusion, the more twisted it will become, and the further from herself she will stray.Īs religion takes on a more prominent role in Maud’s life, it becomes apparent that her faith is a veneer, scar tissue from her traumatic experiences in the hospital, both a symptom and an unhealthy coping mechanism shielding her from the pain of isolation and loneliness. But the flash of recognition on her face (0:01:57) suggests that she identifies with the creature, and so casts it, and consequently herself, in a more pleasing (holy) light. While Maud’s gesture-her arms outstretched, looking up to the ceiling (0:01:45)-has obvious religious connotations, what she actually sees is far from divine: the cockroach’s alien physicality foreshadows the abjection Maud is about to experience from society as a result of the elderly patient’s death. The opening scene of the film makes this everyday horror immediately apparent: the muted colour signifies that what we are witnessing is, though horrific, absolute reality, in contrast with Maud’s moments of religious revelation, which are alive with colour (the levitation scene being the most obvious example of this, taking place against a background of brightly flashing fireworks, (0:54:00) as well as the oversized luminous blue moon (1:09:03), and glowing red cyclones in the sky (1:17:01), among others). For while Glass’ contemporary classic can rightly be considered a religious horror, we must also contend with the fact that Saint Maud is a social horror, in which the pain of loneliness is omnipresent, and a medical horror, in which the grim realities of care, the emotionally and physically demanding work of nursing and the tragedies of an underfunded public service loom equally large. Soaked in images of crucifixes and angels, overlaid with Maud’s prayers, dreams of sainthood and (eventually) unforgettable martyrdom, religion unsurprisingly looms large in Saint Maud.īut while religion serves Rose Glass’ phenomenal debut well visually and thematically, if we (the horror-loving public) focus purely on the crucifixes, the iconography of faith, the art of Blake, we risk missing some of the film’s more prescient concerns. This tension is everywhere in Saint Maud(2019, Rose Glass): between the spiritual Maud and the secular Amanda, between zealous fanaticism and nihilistic despair, Maud’s dual role as victim and villain, the social tension between community and individuality, and the tension created when a desire to do good is marred and warped by neglect and hardship. L ike many great works of art, the power of religious horror lies in the irresistible tension it portrays: a tension between, as Timothy Beal argues in Religion and its Monsters, ‘order and chaos, orientation and disorientation, self and other, foundation and abyss’. ![]() ![]() ![]() Looking for a casino-themed corporate event in Dallas?
